Workshop 1: Draft Tissue Clearing and LSFM Workshop

P‍rof. Murray Blackmore (Marquette University, USA) will talk about his exciting project with Prof.Pantelis Tsoulfas (Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, USA), quantitatively mapping all cells in diverse brain nuclei that project to different levels of the spinal cord in normal mice and mice with different types of contusion injuries.


P‍rof. Dan Zhuand Prof. Peng Fei from Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China will talk about the state of the art of tissue clearing and light sheet microcopy.   We will also have presentations from some of the vendors with amazing new light sheet microscopes.

Workshop 2: Machine & Deep Learning Models Workshop

The second workshop will be on how to use machine learning to accelerate the pace of discovery in neural regeneration research. This workshop was inspired by the DeepLabCut project from the Prof. Alexander Mathis laboratories at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Switzerland.


The workshop will start with a lecture on machine learning for biologists by Prof. Zheng Wang from the computer science department at the University of Miami, USA. Next will be Alexander Mathis to talk about DeepLabCut.Prof. Vance Lemmon (University of Miami, USA) will give a short talk about how we are using DeepLabCut to scale our studies of forepaw behavior. Prof. Demetrio Labate, a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Houston, will talk about using machine learning to automate detection and morphological analysis of astrocytes.   


We hope these lecturers by international experts will encourage workshop participants at the 2021 INRS meeting to incorporate these strategies and tools into their research so we can speed the delivery of therapeutics and rehabilitation to individuals who experience CNS injuries.
